Topic
Variable Dimensions
The idiom variable dimensions is used in a work of art’s identification exclusively when the exact dimensions are not known. The same formula is used when describing a work of art that can be reproduced in multiple dimensions or when the work cannot be measured. A relevant example is an installation composed by several objects. For each of these objects different measurements are needed and this fact can conclude to an ambiguous description of the installation itself.
Figuratively speaking and counting on the effect of the underlying pun, variable dimensions equally leads to the multiple meanings of a word or of an image, as well as to reversing the proportions of its components, to turning the balance and subsequently obtaining new composition formulas and following structures and meanings. Quite obviously, the words in the title of the present project are based on mobility. On one hand, measurements are certainly involved; on the other hand, these measurements are hardly precise.
Artists are invited to meditate on variable dimensions that already contain solutions for artworks that are trying to escape predictable classifications. It’s an invitation to freedom of creation seen not only as a stylistic and technical exploration, but also as a thematic research. One conclusion prevails: creative formulas are practically inexhaustible, due to the inevitable re contextualisation imposed by each artist, beyond the fears of an art history confused by its own theories and value judgements.

Concept / Finalitate

Sampling Spaces Project I 1- 21 August 2009 Tescani I Artists & Works
Sampling Spaces Project, developed within the framework of Tescani International Painting Camp 2009, represents the next step in consolidating “George Enescu” National Museum ’s annual initiative to sustain and encourage the contemporary creative field. Launching this opportunity, that rapidly caught artists’ interest, the project created a cultural network which succeeds in cultivating the dialogue between museum and contemporary art on a common ground. Sampling Spaces Project benefited from the participation of a variety of artists, both young or already known artists, interested in working with the wide range of artistic media, including curatorial work.
Although distinctive, the works of art produced within the project proposed a visual analysis of the concept of space as a site of specific difference. In their approaches, artists engaged the concrete meanings of the notion, in a very generous expression and also the extensions that allows the investigation of the personal memory, the recent history or the urban architecture under transition.

Tema
Spatii citate

Topic
Sampling spaces
This idea covers the wide notion of space as it is perceived in light of the extension of urban space. The latter implies a new contextualization of what one understands by “space”. To mentally perceive space means to organize it. The current theme offers towards assessment various conceptions of space, suggesting deconstructive interpretations, abandonment of context, interference, and so on, without leaving out metaphors or illusory characteristics. One will encourage speculation of the whole range of tensions and emotional reactions which are brought forth when historical agreement on representation and description of space meets subjective and random perceptions.
Key words: manipulated images, quoted lines, elements emphasizing the architectural nature of space, the usage of figurative or abstract modules suggesting spaces in motion.
* Sampling (Engl.) = arrangement of existing visual or audio material with the main intention of playing with the material’s formal characteristics. Rather than quoting from the material, whose sources are often unclear, sampling aims to reformulate it.

International Experimental Painting Camp – Tescani 2008 - TRANSFER Project I Exhibition I Artists I Statements
TRANSFER / group exhibition / painting & installation / April 29th - May 13th 2009/ Sub_Carturesti Gallery / Bucharest

The “George Enescu” National Museum (Bucharest) in partnership with The Museum of Art (Bacau) developed the International Experimental Painting Camp – Tescani 2008 - TRANSFER Project, held between 1- 21st August at „Dumitru and Alice Rosetti - Tescanu – George Enescu” department (Tescani/Bacau)। The event gathered 13 artists from Romania, Italy, Spain, UK, Republic of Moldova, USA.
The Transfer Project has related to the contemporary artistic movement as well as it tried to follow the simultaneous and successive participation of the specific working environments, at the level of its elaboration and the very own execution of the works। Thus, painting, photography, drawing, installation, video art could interpolate by changing their effects through pluralistic extensions. The expression and specificity translations, along with the mixed characters, sometimes with an unaccomplished finality - in order to leave open the path of the enunciation hypothesis, were all recaptured in the same idea of dynamism.

_______________________
Tescani Painting Camp intends to create a favorable climate for contemporary experimental discourse, in a space really destined for artistic dialogue and intercultural dialogue। The new team from George Enescu National Museum in Bucharest, led by Laura Manolache as general director, comes forth with a pertinent project, coordinated by Silvia Costin: Internatinal Experimental Painting Camp with the theme of Transfer। Many international artists responded to this open call and the selected projects revealed the relevance of experiment as a research method in finding new means of expression, and also the interest for the complex problematic of transfer। Art is a dynamic phenomenon and painting is no longer a conventional media of expression, opening towards video animantion, photography, and installation as visual reasons to repress all prejudice over the limits of contemporary painting. The mediums converge, technical pluralism marks the conceptual factor and the artist interferes liberated by the sistematical cause of bidimensionality. The experiment remaines a necessary exercise that has the power to restore trust to those who are suspecting painting or any other kind of artistic form with the iminence of consumation. The presence and activity of the artists from different cultural areas in Tescani represent a solid proof in favour to the necessity of experimental practice in painting, placing Tescani in the circuit of the contemporary artistic phenomenon.

Using language of painting and video animation, I explore border between static image and animated installation. The painting it is an instrument of initiation in the creative process.Recorded integration and disintegration of new materials in different spaces, growing, stagnation and destructive face of nature process, a living sculpture erected by time and energy. I comment on “science for the science’s sake”, the pleasure of enjoying yourself through the information exces, the “absolutist” and “allmighty regime” of science. My images use symbols of power or sexual joy, talking about the absurdity of this “regime”, sometimes with irony and sometimes with brutality. For me, the topic of the painting camp, “the transfer”, has meant the way from the real world information processing to the transfiguration into a world in which the meanings are elevated to the surreal. Daily round of images, of eyes hurried passing by, of progressive slowness. Form a certain point forward the foil is covering directly the nose, the chin, the cheek of the other. It reveal him without kowing him and most of all without deconspiring him. The crash is limited to the long series of atoms from one point to another and back again. This is the way we are and derive one through another. I have asked Maria if she wants to change one another and meet at one meter and a half in three weeks. Who we are asking ourselves on what is made our rhythm of time. How many are we and in how many pieces can we multiply ourselves during each second.I have built a path that I can remake each time I heavy tread it and paint it in printed ink
